A business certificate is required of any person or corporation that is operating a business under any other name but their own. For example someone operating a business as John Doe, Plumbing does not need a business certificate but Doe's Wicked Good Plumbing Co. would need a certificate. A business certificate costs $10.00 and is good for four years. They are available at the Town Clerk's office during normal business hours.
Please note that a business certificate records the fact you are operating a business. It does not indicate that you meet any other regulations regarding your business. You may have to obtain other licenses and permits to operate your business.
