The Town of Ashby responds to the right of the public to access public records maintained by the Town in accordance with Mass. General Law Chapter 66. The Town takes this public responsibility seriously and is committed to open government and makes every attempt to respond to requests in a timely manner.
Certain records maintained by the Town are not public records and are exempt from public disclosure. A request to access public records should be made to the department that maintains the record being sought. If you do not know which department maintains the record, direct the request to the Town Clerk and I will forward it on to the appropriate department.
When the Town responds to requests for public records or to copy records, costs are incurred.
The fee for public records request is based on the amount of time it takes to assemble the records. Most record requests take less than one hour. If the record request takes more than one hour a fee of $11.00 per hour is charged. You can get an estimate of the fees when you make the request.
