I would like to begin this annual report by acknowledging the dedicated EMTs and First Responders that make up Ashby’s Emergency Medical Services. At the present time we have 10 EMTs, 1 Paramedic, 1 Intermediate and 4 First Responders on our crew. I am grateful to each of them for their commitment to this service and to the community. Covering the Town 365 days a year with a crew of this size is an overwhelming responsibility and they have demonstrated an exceptional willingness to continue to provide this service.

The year 2000 has seen a marked increase in the number of calls we have responded to. As of this writing, we have had a call volume that has doubled since last year. This has put an added strain on the crew. We are, however, working towards increasing our numbers. We are pleased to report that as of this date, we have put two students through school and are awaiting the results of their state exam. We welcome them to our crew. We also have eight candidates who will be starting a class the end of January. We are hoping by June to have nearly doubled the size of our crew.

Our ambulance service has been very busy this year in the area of training. Monthly training meetings are held in order to help maintain the certification required by the state. Ashby’s Ambulance crew has also been very busy with community events this past year. We were present at the Fourth of July celebration, every band concert and the Pumpkin Festival providing free blood pressure clinics. At these events, the ambulance was made available to anyone wishing to view the inside or ask questions of the crew. This was especially popular with the children of the Town. We also were fortunate to be able to work with the Scouts of Ashby to assist with first aid badge requirements.

This past year Ashby EMS has acquired a new Defibrillator. All personnel are trained in its use. This unit will greatly enhance the quality of care we wish to provide to the Town.

I would like to take this opportunity to again thank the crew for their support. I would like to extend a special thank you to my assistant, Linda Brooke and also the Personnel Board for their help and support with administrative duties.

A very sincere thank you also goes to the Police Department, Fire Department, Highway Department and the Dispatchers for their continued assistance during EMS calls.

Respectfully submitted,
