LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT

(7/1/98-6/30/99)

Well, its that time of year again. The library was open a total of 900 hours (18 hours a week). 22, 741 books, 6,185 videos, 393 audio tapes and 81 CD-ROMs were circulated. There are 1,650 registered borrowers. 88 children’s programs were held (story hours, summer reading, movies and puppet shows.)

The Friends of the Library have been very supportive with programming and providing passes for museums: Boston Fine Arts, Children’s Hands on Art, Ecotarium, and Roger Williams Zoo. We encourage you to use these passes by reserving them in advance.

As part of the Central Massachusetts Regional Library System (CMRLS) you have online access to the e-library, Infotrac Search, online catalogs, the Internet, as well as an expanded resource of books, audio tapes and videos. This is a valuable resource and is available to everyone as long as the Ashby Library is certified and open.

Meetings may be held in the Sibley Room by contacting the Library Director. Library, town and non-profit organizations have priority.

The future of the Library is very exciting. We have finished a long work-intensive planning process for expanding the library and its services. This includes requesting more open hours. The plans included Wednesday hors for the coming year. I hope that everyone in town takes the time to keep informed of our progress. I thank you for your continued support. I especially wish to commend the other members of the Building Committee for their diligence and dedication.

Marja-Leena LePoer,

Library Director
