Link Policy

Purpose:
To identify the criteria and conditions by which Ashby
provides links to external web sites. These external links are
limited to those web sites that are deemed relevant to the mission and
goals of the town government and its departments and are part of its
ongoing efforts to improve service and provide greater opportunities
for communication to its citizens. Examples are given for purposes of
illustration only and not to provide an exclusive listing of
acceptable or unacceptable web sites.

Acceptable Web sites:
1. Official local, state and federal government web sites and
educational institutions. Generally, web sites with .gov or .edu domains.

2. National, state and regional boards, authorities, commissions,
councils and consortiums.

3. Organizations that receive direct financial support from Ashby

4. Private or non-profit organizations which have either been
officially recognized by the Ashby Board of Selectmen,
North Middlesex Regional School Board or Montachusett Regional Technical
Vocational School which are directly related to services provided by or
events sponsored by Ashby or the Regional Schools.

5. Any commercial, individual or organization that supports a
service, benefit or program of Ashby and meets the mission
and goals of the town government and its departments. Examples:
Chamber of Commerce, local newspapers, 

6. Hyperlinks to technical resources that are necessary for viewing
content on the town web site, subject to content and technical
approval by the Webmaster. Examples: Adobe Reader,
Word Viewer, Excel Viewer

Unacceptable Web sites:

  1. Web sites that are owned or managed by a political party,
    candidate or special interest group or are of a political nature that
    are associated with, sponsored by or serving a candidate for elected
    office, any political party or organization supporting or seeking to
    defeat any candidate for elective office or ballot proposal.
  2. Web sites that exhibit hate, bias, discrimination, pornography,
    libelous or otherwise defamatory content.
  3. Web sites that contain false or misleading information.
  4. Any commercial, individual or organizational web site that does not
    have a clearly established basis involving a service, benefit or
    program of Ashby  or does not meet the mission and goals of
    the town government and its departments.
  5. Web sites that infringe on any trademark, copyright, or patent
    rights of another.
  6. Individual personal homepages.
