Population Change
This chart shows the percentage change in population for each decade since 1790. The figures in the left hand column represent 10 percentage points. The figures for 2000 and 2010 are projections from UMass. It is interesting to see how events well outside the scope of the Town effected its growth. From 1850 to 1890 the Town lost population as a result of the industrial revolution offering higher paying jobs in the cities and the westward expansion of America. The highest growth came imediately following WW II with the wide spread use of the automobile and the move to suburban locations.
