This chart shows the percentage change in population and the percentage change in housing units. Note that 1998 data is based on local records and may not reflect new apartments. Housing and population run in tandem until 1970 when the rate of increase in housing units remain vrtualy the same while rate of population growth declines. Based on local data this trend seems to be returning to its historical norm. Usually this indicates there are more children per household than there were 20 years ago. A decline in single parent/single occupant households could also account for some of the change. A further analysis of census data is needed to determine the reasons for this change.
